Job Summary

Grinnell College seeks an innovative and thoughtful leader as Associate Vice President for Analytic Support and Institutional Research. An independent, residential, coeducational, highly selective undergraduate liberal arts college of approximately 1,600 full-time students, Grinnell is widely recognized for its rigorous academic program and its spirit of student engagement and social activism. The Associate Vice President for Analytic Support and Institutional Research will lead the collection and analysis of data to assist in strategic, academic, and administrative decisions and actions; work closely with the Dean of the College to support student learning assessment; assist offices in developing the culture and skills for analysis and a cycle of evaluation, decision-making, and re-evaluation; coordinate the external reporting of institutional data to government agencies; coordinate and schedule institutional surveys; serve as archivist/custodian of institutional analyses, and coordinate development of a data dictionary. Reporting directly to the President, the Associate Vice President will represent the office on the Senior Staff and oversee a staff of three.

Minimum Qualifications

Advanced degree and four to six years of experience in institutional research required. Knowledge of student retention strategies, accreditation procedures, and institutional planning valuable. The successful applicant will also have:
• Experience in using a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods, statistical data analysis, and skill in using software applications for research, including MS Excel, as well as other reporting and query instruments;
• Knowledge of major trends in enrollment and pedagogy affecting the landscape of higher education;
• Professional engagement with national organizations dedicated to institutional research;
• Ability to think from an institution-wide perspective, and to work collegially;
• Ability to communicate well with various administrative and academic departments;
• A commitment to integrity and transparency;
• Strong supervisory skills and experience and/or significant capacity for collaboration with colleagues to complete multiple projects.
